The Reluctant Polymath of Indian Music
If there were ever a man who could turn the chaos of the Indian music industry into a career symphony, it’s Vipin Mishra. National Award–winning composer, songwriter, producer, performer, label founder, studio boss, motorcycle wanderer—he’s essentially the Swiss Army knife of music. Only sharper, louder, and with better hair.
He cut his teeth playing live with Parikrama, one of India’s biggest rock outfits, before going solo into film, promptly bagging a National Award by the tender age of 32. Since then, he’s scored over a thousand commercials (yes, that is as exhausting as it sounds), written for Bollywood stalwarts like YRF and Vijeyta Films, and—because clearly sleep is optional—crafted his own indie material with The Vipin Mishra Project.
But he doesn’t stop at simply writing songs. No, no. He creates entire worlds. Original music series like FolkRoad Zanskar and Raga Revival prove that his ambition lies somewhere between reviving cultural legacies and making Netflix feel a little inadequate.
When he’s not penning heartfelt ballads or producing other artists on his boutique label Kranti Records, Vipin is running two state-of-the-art studios (Songbird Studios), a jampad (Boombay Jampad), in Mumbai or plotting his next music-tech solution , TrackPay —because why just complain about industry problems when you can solve them with an app?
And if none of that sounds tiring enough, he also likes to disappear on epic motorcycle rides, proving that even his hobbies look suspiciously like movie montages.
In short: Vipin Mishra doesn’t merely straddle the different worlds of Indian music—he practically owns the circus tent.
